A Study on Demand and Supply of Radiologic Technologists in Korea

Abstract
To decide data needed for setting a long term plan of demand and supply of radiologic technologists in Korea, as part of the medical manpower planning, the study was conducted on the basis of current status of the radiologic technologists, number of diagnostic x-rays, estimated number of cases and ratio of radiologic examinations by year in Korea compared with the United States and Japan. As a result, the following conclusion was reached.
1) On the basis of number of cases of radiologic examinations, it was anticipated that a surplus of supply of radiologic technologists in Korea would be 111 in 1980 and 270 in 1986 in Korea.
2) On the basis of number of diagnostic x-rays, it was expected that a shortage of radiologic technologists reach 449 in 1980, but a surplus of that would be calculated 382 in Korea.
3) In order to keep balance between demand and supply of radiologic technologists in Korea, it is necessary to restrain a newly organized regular educational institutions and authorized trainning institutions till 1986.
4) An adequate policy should be considered to accomplish reasonable work performance of radiologic technologists in the near future.
